Manchester United v Hull City

Hull have improved on the road and picked up a fantastic point at Tottenham last weekend, largely due to the outstanding performance of goalkeeper Boaz Myhill.

But for all Manchester United's faults and current defensive frailties, I don't think they will be given a stern examination here.

Preston v Chelsea

This fixture is great news for Preston's finances, which will be boosted by a full house at Deepdale in addition to the television revenue from ITV, who will show the match live.

But PNE are taking on a Chelsea team who, after a bad December, look like they are enjoying an excellent January.

Reading v Burnley
(1245 GMT)

Reading defeated Liverpool in the last round and now find themselves up against another Premier League side in Burnley.

I thought that the Clarets played well enough to take something at Manchester United in the league at the weekend and I think they will pick up their first win under new boss Brian Laws at the Madejski Stadium.

Verdict: 0-2

Accrington Stanley v Fulham

Like a lot of lower league teams, Accrington have not played that much recently because of the weather.

Fulham are going through a slightly iffy patch at the moment, especially away from home, but I think they will win this tie.

Verdict: 1-2

Aston Villa v Brighton

Villa go into this match on the back of the euphoria of reaching Wembley in the Carling Cup and, even if manager Martin O'Neill makes changes to his team, I think they will play with confidence and belief.

Brighton had a good win at Walsall last weekend and are improving under Gus Poyet, but I don't think they will win this one.

Verdict: 2-0

Bolton v Sheffield United

When Bolton led 2-0 at Arsenal on Wednesday, I wondered whether they would be able to hang on. They ended up losing 4-2.

Sheffield United do not change from year to year. They get in the face of their opponents. However, I think Bolton are equipped to handle it.

Verdict: 2-1

Cardiff v Leicester

Cardiff have gone through a relatively poor run of form but have the capability to score goals from all areas of their team.

Leicester are having a good season back in the Championship. They are well managed and go about their business with a minimum of fuss. That said, I think that home advantage will prove crucial.

Verdict: 2-1

Derby v Doncaster

I'm still waiting for Nigel Clough to have a significant impact on Derby. He needs to take them up the Championship table challenging for promotion.

So far, that has not happened, and I reckon that Clough is as frustrated as anybody about how this campaign has gone.

Doncaster play really good football under Sean O'Driscoll and I can see why he has been linked with other jobs.

Verdict: 1-1

Everton v Birmingham

Everton were very impressive against both Arsenal and Manchester City, and I think they will end Birmingham's long unbeaten run.

Both teams are in form. I just feel that Everton are at the start of a good run.

Verdict: 2-0

Notts County v Wigan

Every time I talk about Wigan, I cannot help but think of Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde. Good one minute, bad the next.

They had a really good win at Wolves last weekend, but Notts County are a real handful at home and do score goals.

Verdict: 1-1

Portsmouth v Sunderland

Sunderland were taken apart by Chelsea last weekend while Portsmouth were left to kick their heels after their match postponed.

Pompey just scraped past Coventry in the last round, but I think that they might go enjoy a decent run in the competition now.

Verdict: 2-1

Southampton v Ipswich

Alan Pardew has done a superb job at Southampton and, had they not started the season on minus 10 points, would be firmly in the hunt for promotion from League One.

Ipswich are difficult to beat and are slowly but surely heading in the right direction.

Verdict: 1-1

West Brom v Newcastle

These teams have met twice in the Championship this season and drawn both games as they chase promotion.

I don't think it would be the end of the world for either team if they were to lose this one because they have bigger fish to fry.

Verdict: 1-1

Wolves v Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace have been on a really good run of form since chairman Simon Jordan stopped paying them! It shows what happens when you have to sing for your supper.

Wolves are good one week, not so good the next. But I think manager Mick McCarthy will have been in their faces all week after the defeat against Wigan.

Verdict: 2-1

Tottenham v Leeds United
(1715 GMT)

Leeds recorded the result of the third round by defeating Manchester United at Old Trafford. However, Simon Grayson's side have not won since then and are up against a Tottenham team that will be looking to respond to their defeat at Liverpool.

Harry Redknapp knows that both Manchester United and Liverpool are already out of the Cup and I think he will select a strong side.

Verdict: 2-0

SUNDAY

Stoke v Arsenal
(1330 GMT)

When you are a top team you have to cope with everything - and Arsenal will have to handle Stoke's robust approach. This fixture certainly won't be a church service and I think that the home side will pull off an upset.

Arsenal have just gone top of the Premier League and are now the team that everyone is talking about. Whenever other sides have been in that position, they've been hit by a dodgy spell - and I think one might be coming the way of Arsenal.

Verdict: 1-1

Scunthorpe v Man City
(1600 GMT)

Scunthorpe are a decent side at home and manager Nigel Adkins has done a really good job at the club. To keep them in the Championship is an achievement in itself.

However, Manchester City have the strength in depth to be able to bring two or three world-class players off the bench.

With their Carling Cup semi-final against Manchester United next week, I think Roberto Mancini will rest players, but they will still have too much quality.
