Predictions in english PREMIER LEAGUE PREDICTIONS
Суббота, 09 Май 2009

Blackburn v Portsmouth

Blackburn v Portsmouth

Rovers and Portsmouth both probably think they need another win to be safe.

I thought it was a bit of strange result for Portsmouth against Arsenal last week but after David James handed the Gunners the first goal, it was always going to be tough.

I'm going to go for a Blackburn win because I think they've managed the art of picking up three points at home when it matters and doing it against against teams they are capable of beating.

Pompey will be fine but I think this result for Rovers will ensure their place in the league next season.

Verdict: 2-1

Bolton v Sunderland

Bolton v Sunderland

I was surprised by Sunderland's performance against Everton.

After an abysmal showing at West Brom, I thought they'd have a good go but David Moyes' side kept them at arm's length - in fact, they cruised to victory.

Bolton have cleverly never been sucked into the relegation fight. They've managed to get results that have kept them clear of the bottom four five.

Verdict: 1-1

Everton v Tottenham

Everton v Tottenham

Everton had disastrous results at home at the start of the season but since then they've been very tough to beat at Goodison Park.

Tottenham will go there and play but Everton are solid even without the injured Phil Jagielka, who has been their rock at the back.

Verdict: 2-1

Fulham v Aston Villa

Fulham v Aston Villa

Villa got a much needed win against Hull on Monday night, while Fulham have been one of the success stories of the season.

I wouldn't mind betting that Villa will have a real strong finish to the season, having overcome their brief wobble.

Verdict:1-2

Hull v Stoke

Hull v Stoke

I watched Hull play Villa on Monday and while you couldn't criticise them for a lack of effort or commitment, they just didn't look like scoring.

I think Tony Pulis has got Stoke believing they still need a draw or a win to stay safe, so don't expect them to take their foot off the gas.

There is so much hanging on this match because I think Newcastle and Middlesbrough are hoping that Hull don't pick up another point this season.

Verdict: 0-0

West Brom v Wigan

West Brom v Wigan

Wigan boss Steve Bruce mentioned that one or two had switched off after his team got past the safe 40-point mark - it's what used to happen to Charlton under Alan Curbishley.

But they are still a strong proposition without being at full throttle.

I watched West Brom at Tottenham. They play lovely, lovely football but can't do it at both ends.

Verdict: 2-2

West Ham v Liverpool (1730 BST)

West Ham v Liverpool

West Ham have had a top season. Many thought they would be in trouble after all the financial problems they suffered in October/November.

It took a while for Gianfranco Zola and Steve Clarke to turn things around but they have done brilliantly and the Hammers can give anyone a good game.

However, they are playing a Liverpool side who have the bit between their teeth at the moment.

Verdict: 1-2

SUNDAY

Man Utd v Man City (1330 BST)

Man Utd v Man City

If you're a United supporter then you always think this fixture as a banana skin.

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson will get his side fired up using the fact that City have set their sights matching them by proposing to sign big-name players.

United are also very strong at the moment and are sweeping aside every challenge placed in front of them.

Verdict: 2-0

Arsenal v Chelsea (1600 BST)

Arsenal v Chelsea

Chelsea are going to finish third, Arsenal are going to finish fourth.

For all these games over the years, this will be one of the most low key affairs between the two.

Verdict: 1-1

MONDAY

Newcastle v Middlesbrough (2000 BST)

Newcastle v Middlesbrough

It's the match of the season for both teams - their respective young managers have almost admitted that whichever loses will be relegated.

It will be a full St James' Park and Newcastle will be spurred on by their fans but their problem is that they have no great pace in the side.

Both teams have put themselves under so much pressure to win the game, I don't think either will.

Verdict: 1-1
